Wasabi is a Rio de Janeiro womenswear brand with a strong connection to the fine arts. Created in early 2010, it has developed partnerships with renowned artists to develop its collections. Artists Ana Holck (Galeria Anita Schwartz), Gisele Camargo (Galeria Mercedes Viegas), Célia Euvaldo (Gabinete de Arte Raquel Arnauld) and Maria Lynch (H.A.P. Galeria) have already done exclusive prints for Wasabi. For winter 2012, Wasabi is partnering with Lúcia Laguna (Galeria Laura Marsiaj).
Wasabi is sold by multibrand shops in Brazil and abroad, and its collections are featured at Rio à Porter, a business show that takes place in parallel to Fashion Rio. In 2010, Wasabi premiered on the runway, showing its "Architecture and vanishing points" collection during a fashion show at Rio à Porter, a collection which was featured prominently in the media.
Daniela Sabbag and Ana Wambier are the designers behind the brand. They named it wasabi because 1) it is a stimulating flavor (our clothes are different than the rest) and 2) it is made using horseradish, which is known as raiz forte or "strong root" in Portuguese (the duo of Daniela Sabbag and Ana Wambier).
